At the end of the 20th century, and especially after 1989, many cities and regions in Central and Eastern Europe underwent profound changes as a result of deindustrialization, globalization, and political-economic transformation. While some of these places found new economic functions and identities, others continue to face long-term challenges associated with economic decline, depopulation, and social fragmentation. The conference After Industry: Cities and Regions in Transformation will critically examine these processes from the perspective of historical research, employing further interdisciplinary approaches.
Applications for the conference, together with an abstract of the paper, can be submitted to the organizers by June 30, 2025 at sevecek@flu.cas.cz. The call for papers can be found here.
