An International Conference on Europe after Industrial Decline Comes to Prague"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"713\" data-end=\"1106\">The conference will offer an interdisciplinary perspective on the transformation of cities and regions in Central and Eastern Europe as well as in a broader global context\u2014from historical developments and social impacts to contemporary strategies of adaptation and development. Particular emphasis will be placed on the long-term dynamics of these processes and their changing forms over time.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1108\" data-end=\"1404\">\u201cExperts from across Central and Eastern Europe will gather in Prague, and we have also succeeded in bringing prominent international scholars in this field into the programme,\u201d says one of the conference organizers, Ond\u0159ej \u0160eve\u010dek of the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1108\" data-end=\"1404\">Keynote speakers include <strong data-start=\"1431\" data-end=\"1446\">Steven High<\/strong> (Concordia University, Montr\u00e9al), a leading international expert on deindustrialization, as well as <strong data-start=\"1547\" data-end=\"1567\">Kerstin Br\u00fcckweh<\/strong> (Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space, IRS) and <strong data-start=\"1631\" data-end=\"1649\">Rebecca Madgin<\/strong> (University of Glasgow). Their presentations will offer insights into transformations of industrial and post-industrial societies in different contexts, based on long-term research.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1833\" data-end=\"2356\">The programme will also feature a public panel discussion, <em data-start=\"1892\" data-end=\"1969\">After Industry: Rethinking Local Economies, Memory, and Industrial Identity<\/em>, which will take place on <strong data-start=\"1996\" data-end=\"2020\">14 May 2026 at 19:00<\/strong> at Kampus Hybernsk\u00e1 (Cirkul\u00e1rn\u00ed hub, Prague 1). The discussion will be moderated by Ad\u00e9la Gjuri\u010dov\u00e1, Director of the Institute of Contemporary History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and will provide an opportunity to engage in debate on the transformation of local economies, industrial memory, and contemporary forms of inequality.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2358\" data-end=\"2595\">Selected contributions will be published in a collective scholarly volume in English aimed at an international audience, offering deeper insight into the dynamics of deindustrialization from both historical and contemporary perspectives.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2597\" data-end=\"3277\">The conference is supported by the Jan Amos Komensk\u00fd Operational Programme within the research project <em data-start=\"2700\" data-end=\"2787\">Urbanity: Inequality, Adaptation and Public Space of Cities in Historical Perspective<\/em> (CZ.02.01.01\/00\/23_025\/0008735), and is organized in cooperation with the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Contemporary History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and Palack\u00fd University Olomouc. The Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space (IRS) is also an international partner.
